Denmark Trip - Day 14 - Tved, DK

Summer House, Tved – Woke at 6:30 AM, showered and had coffee. Lotte texted there was a shooting at a Copenhagen shopping center. Three people were killed, and a total of ten people were shot by some crazy guy with no clear motive. It was very sad news but what’s even sadder is this happens all the time in the U.S.
Sletterhage Lighthouse.
Lotte was scheduled for morning duty at Sletterhage Lighthouse. So, Carol and I tagged along. I climbed to the top of the lighthouse again and later, Carol and I walked along the shore and collected flint and other rocks to take home.
Dark clouds getting ready to dump rain on us
The weather was rainy off and on and we almost got caught in a huge down pour. Thankfully, we were able to make it to the car before the worst of the down pour. Lotte’s two-hour shift ended at 1 PM. She had a 1:15 PM appointment for her back but, for some reason, the Chiropractor wasn’t there when we arrived. So, unfortunately, Lotte had to reschedule.
Kraka gift shop
We then drove to the Kraka gift shop where Carol bought some towels and a wine bottle stopper for our neighbors, Larry and Petrina. Carol also bought a small carved wooden dog for herself.

We returned to Lotte’s house where we picked up Erik and some salmon, cheese, and bread to take to the summer house for lunch. After lunch, Erik and Lotte installed some leather clothes hangers in the bedrooms.

Lotte’s sister and husband (Erling and Lene) invited us for dinner at their new summer house. So, later in the day, Lotte, Erik, Carol, and I drove to their summer house (around 1 hour). Erling, Lene and their son, Sigurd greeted us. They gave us some wine and a quick tour of their beautiful new summer house.

Later, we all had a wonderful meal of barbequed sausage, pork, cabbage/fruit salad, Russian cakes with tuna and shrimp, wine, Danish Strawberry Cake, and coffee.

We chatted until around 10 PM about topics including how we met Lotte, politics, and Denmark hosting the start of the 2022 Tour De France. We left and, on the way back to Lotte’s house, Lotte and Erik took us on a little detour to an area where they said J.R. Tolkien got some of his inspiration for LOTR (Lord of the Rings). The area was not far from where Lotte lives and is part of a longer LOTR road trip through Denmark.
The road wound around through an old castle with a moat and up to the top of a hill that felt very magical and where we could see for miles. Lotte then dropped us off at the summer house for the night.
Area near where Lotte lives that J.R. Tolkien got some inspiration for LOTR

Things I Learned On This Day (#TILOTD) –
  • While not nearly as many, Denmark has a few crazy gun nuts like America does
  • Flint is a common rock on the coast where Lotte lives
  • J.R. Tolkien got some inspiration for LOTR from areas in Denmark near where Lotte lives
